The True Detective season 2 rumor mill is now just essentially one of those giant spinning Bingo things, spitting out a random assortment of established Hollywood names. Like, to the point where we wouldn't be surprised if creator Nic Pizzolato was actually leaking the names as a way to get the show's rabid clue-hunters warmed up for the next run of episodes. Vince Vaughn was the latest A-lister attached to the Emmy-nominated series, with TVLine reporting Vaughn is "in preliminary talks to play one of the three leads," and now Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss is "being eyed" for one of the lead roles, according to The Wrap.

Moss is apparently up for the role of "a tough, no-nonsense" sheriff with a troubled upbringing and a host of vices. Since Moss also starred as a cop investigating the disappearance of a 12-year-old girl in Top of the Lake, it should be a good fit.

Season 2 of the acclaimed HBO series is set in California and revolves around a murder and the construction of a new railroad system linking the northern and southern parts of the state. Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch are supposedly very close to inking deals, which would fill out the four lead roles.
