Mindy Kaling and Carson Daly got up bright and early on the West Coast to announce the nominees for this year's Primetime Emmy Awards, and unsurprisingly the 2014 nominations field is led by Game of Thrones. HBO's medieval fantasy epic scored 19 nods (including the technical categories), edging out FX's newcomer Fargo by one. American Horror Story: Coven tallied 17 nominations, while perennial contenders like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and Downton Abbey were near the top of the field. Netflix series Orange Is the New Black led the comedy field with 12 nominations.

GoT is nominated for the cable-dominated Outstanding Drama Series, where it'll go up against Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, House of Cards, Mad Men, and True Detective. Breaking Bad has a chance to ride off into the sunset with a second consecutive win here. Bryan Cranston inevitably scored an Outstanding Actor nod for his portrayal of that show's antihero, Walter White, and he'll again face off against network pal Jon Hamm, as well as last year's winner Jeff Daniels. Both True Detective leads, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, are up for that award as well. As for Outstanding Actress, Claire Danes has a chance to repeat last year's victory, but she has stiff competition from the likes of Kerry Washington, Julianna Margulies, and Robin Wright.

In the comedy categories, ABC's Modern Family can make history with a fifth straight Outstanding Comedy Series win, which would tie Frasier's streak. Competing against the favorite are Louie, Orange Is the New Black, Veep, Silicon Valley, and CBS behemoth The Big Bang Theory. The Lead Actress in a Comedy Series field is stacked, with last year's winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus up against Lena Dunham, Amy Poehler, Melissa McCarthy, and Edie Falco. For the men, Louis C.K. competes against his friend Ricky Gervais, plus last year's winner Jim Parsons.

The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards, air August 25 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. See the full list of Emmy nominations below.
