NBA icon Kobe Bryant will play will play his final game on Wednesday (April 13) when the Los Angeles Lakers host the Utah Jazz at the Staples Center. So who better to pay tribute to the Laker great than rap legend-in-the-making Kendrick Lamar.

Written by journalist Scoop Jackson, ESPN’s “Fade to Black” segment features K.Dot saluting the Black Mamba’s historic NBA career. Using Lamar’s “untitled 07 | Levitate” as the backing track, the Compton rhymer can’t believe that Bryant is leaving the court after 20 years in the game.

“It’s just a trip to be doing this right now,” he said in the video’s introduction. “Kobe really retiring.”

Along with highlights and footage of Bryant's greatest moments as a Laker, Lamar recites an elegant poem about Bryant's influence on the game of basketball and the entire world.

“Restoring crowns back to where they belong, under royal banners / Purple and gold, the color of royalty / Our one-man L.A. King,” he said about Bryant.

Kobe Bryant played for 20 seasons in the NBA, all with the Lakers and helped the franchise win five NBA Championships.
