Jennifer Lopez performed a free homecoming show in the Bronx last night (June 4), because if she stops reminding people about her roots and that she’s still “Jenny from the Block” and the “Same Girl,” then she’ll die, kind of like a shark if it stops swimming. During the 90-minute set, JLo brought out French Montana and Fat Joe, but the biggest moment came when Ja Rule showed up to perform their 2001 collabs “Ain’t It Funny” and “I’m Real.”

The crowd pretty much lost it when the MC emerged, and if Ja frigging Rule is sparking uproarious applause in the year 2014, maybe that’s a sign we’ve gone overboard with this nostalgia thing, no? Anyway, watch below as Ja croaks through the aughts hits, and brace yourselves for the coming wave of 2000s nostalgia as the ’90s revival fades into your Gmail archives.
