ANTENNA Picks the 2014 Emmy Award Winners
We haven't had a chance to recover from last night's MTV VMAs, and now we've already gotta move on to the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards, which air tonight at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. The network is keeping it in-house with Seth Meyers hosting (aw it's so sad because he seems like a nice guy and he's invited to this place where his Late Night will never be invited).
What do we know about this year's Emmys? Well, there's a lot more love for Netflix, and the committee still really loves Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory. Otherwise, we know some of our favorite shows and characters are pitted against each other, like GoT vs. True Detective or Don Draper vs. Rust Cohle, giving us a bunch of Sophie's Choices. Below, find out who we want to win and who we think will win for all the big categories.
DRAMA SERIES
Who we want to win: Breaking Bad. Whatever qualms you may have had with the series finale, no show can compete with how utterly thrilling BB was.
Who will win: Breaking Bad. Mad Men can take it next year, True Detective is too new this year.
COMEDY SERIES
Who we want to win: Veep.
Who will win: Modern Family for like the 14th year in a row.
LEAD ACTOR, DRAMA SERIES
Who we want to win: Matthew McConaughey, True Detective. Jon Hamm's losing streak in this category is astounding, but we'll pull for him next year.
Who will win: Matthew McConaughey, True Detective
LEAD ACTRESS, DRAMA SERIES
Who we want to win: Lizzy Caplan, Masters of Sex. Ain't happening, though.
Who will win: Kerry Washington, Scandal. Sure why not.
LEAD ACTOR, COMEDY SERIES
Who we want to win: Louis C.K., Louie. He has developed legit acting chops!
Who will win: Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory
LEAD ACTRESS, COMEDY SERIES
Who we want to win: Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation. She's the Jon Hamm of this category.
Who will win: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep. We're cool with this outcome.
SUPPORTING ACTOR, DRAMA SERIES
Who we want to win: Peter Dinklage, Game of Thrones. Let's be real this is a two-man fight between Dinklage and Aaron Paul, and we'd be happy with either guy winning.
Who will win: Aaron Paul, Breaking Bad. The Academy, or whatever it is, will send Paul out on top.
SUPPORTING ACTRESS, DRAMA SERIES
Who we want to win: Christina Hendricks, Mad Men. Wasn't this past season kind of light on Hendricks material, though?
Who will win: Anna Gunn, Breaking Bad. From series liability to star.
SUPPORTING ACTOR, COMEDY SERIES
Who we want to win: Adam Driver, Girls. Nobody does inscrutable like Driver.
Who will win: Ty Burrell, Modern Family
SUPPORTING ACTRESS, COMEDY SERIES
Who we want to win: Anna Chlumsky, Veep
Who will win: Mayim Bialik, The Big Bang Theory. Either way, our childhood selves are satisfied.
VARIETY
Who we want to win: The Colbert Report. "Stephen Colbert" deserves all the recognition before leaving us forever for The Late Show.
Who will win: The Daily Show, again. Which is fine.
REALITY COMPETITION
NOPE.
