Colin Kaepernick Donating Jersey Proceeds to Community Organizations [PHOTO]
As promised, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is donating monies to community organizations. On Wednesday (Sept. 7), the 28-year-old footballer went on his Instagram account to announce that proceeds from the sales of his jersey, which has become the top selling item on NFLShop.com since he began his protest, are going to supporting communities.
"I want to thank everyone who has shown me love and support, it truly means a lot!" he wrote. "I wasn't expecting my jersey sales to jump to number one because of this, but it shows the people's belief that we can achieve justice and equality for ALL! The only way I can repay you for the support is to return the favor by donating all the proceeds I receive from my jersey sales back into the communities! I believe in the people, and WE can be the change!
Since his silent protest of not standing when the national anthem is being played, fans and celebrities have supported Kaepernick by wearing his jersey.
Both J. Cole and Trey Songz have showed their support for Kaepernick by wearing his jersey during their respective shows. Sales for his number 7 jersey has skyrocketed over the past couple of weeks.
Kaepernick is still kneeling during the national anthem and he doesn't planned on changing his protest anytime soon. “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” he said. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
