Nas Music Featured in Latest Trailer for Netflix Series ‘The Get Down’
The Get Down is the highly-anticipated 70s hip-hop series that is coming to Netflix in August. The project is helmed by Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge!, Romeo+Juliet), the series is boasting a pretty respectable pedigree and fans are hoping that it adds to Netflix's stellar top tier shows like House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black.
Nas signed on as an executive producer for the series, which is set in the mid-1970s Bronx and is being described as a coming-of-age tale, and in the latest trailer, fans get to hear a snippet of a new song from the Queensbridge emcee. The lyrics describe a lot of what as happening in those nascent days for hip-hop's history.
Back in April, Luhrmann had high praise for Nas and his contributions.
“One of the great collaborations is that I’ve been working really closely in creating these rhymes, and he’s a producer on the film, with one of the most iconic voices of the ‘90s and that’s Nas," Luhrmann said during an interview at the Tribeca Film Festival. "And so Nas has been this other huge creative force in the production. And it’s been playing really, really successfully.”
