Watch the Brilliant FX ‘Atlanta’ Teaser From the ‘People v. O.J. Simpson’ Finale
Despite taking place two decades after the real verdict, all eyes were on FX last night for the closing statements of American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson. Donald Glover’s upcoming rap drama Atlanta took full advantage of that hype as well, airing a brilliant meta spot tied to the series’ verdict, which you can watch right now.
Without revealing much of anything on the series itself, FX released the first official Atlanta promo (seen below, unless an official copy goes online), in which Donald Glover’s Earnest “Earn” Marks and Lakeith Stanfield’s Darius actually watch the People v. O.J. Simpson ending (h/t Complex):
Written by and starring Glover, who himself grew up in the titular city, FX’s Atlanta follows two cousins on their way up through the Atlanta rap scene whose opposing views on art versus commerce, success and race will make their quest anything but easy. Glover will also act as the show’s executive producer, along with Paul Simms (Girls, Flight of the Conchords), and Dianne McGunigle.
Having already shot the pilot, described as a “Twin Peaks with rappers,”, FX confirms the half-hour series is on target for a 10-episode run this year. Stay tuned for more formal announcements after the teaser above.
