The last few years have seen a cluster of bands from Denmark offering up particularly brooding and bilious post-punk influenced music, and Iceage was the most ferocious and famous act to come out of that scene. Their caustic sophomore album, You're Nothing, was one of 2013's best, and now they've returned with their first new song since that release... and we don't quite know what to make of it.

"The Lord's Favorite" sounds like a joke at first, a sneering version of rambling, on-the-road rock. Singer Elias Bender Rønnenfelt brings his same moody intensity to the proceedings, and the video is appropriately bizarre, so any irony isn't readily apparent. It's certainly a brighter offering, but there's something slightly off about it all, which gives us hope that Iceage's hellish ecstasy hasn't frozen over into pure ecstasy on their next album.
