FX ‘American Crime Story’ Season 2 Will Focus on Hurricane Katrina Victims

Even as the first season of FX’s American Crime Story seems to distance itself from its horrific predecessor with a focus on The People v. O.J. Simpson, it was always the series’ intent to focus on a new crime with future seasons. Now, we know that a potential Season 2 would focus on victims of Hurricane Katrina, per executive producer Ryan Murphy.

Granted it’s early yet, the February premiere of People v O.J. Simpson dictates the American Crime Story Season 2 would need to get the ball rolling sooner, rather than later. FX hasn’t officially issued a Season 2 renewal (as if such things stop Ryan Murphy), while The Hollywood Reporter got Murphy to admit that revisiting Katrina from six to eight different perspectives would form next year’s spine, with different writers as well:

Murphy says the working plan is to follow a group of six to eight people in an attempt to examine all sides of the tragedy, from the Superdome in New Orleans to the hospital to those who were put on buses and dropped off with babies who had to wear trash bags for multiple days. ‘I want this show to be a socially conscious, socially aware examination of different types of crime around the world […] and in my opinion, Katrina was a f—ing crime — a crime against a lot of people who didn’t have a strong voice, and we’re going to treat it as a crime. That’s what this show is all about.’

This early in the process, it’s also difficult to speculate who from the cast, if anyone, might return for American Crime Story Season 2 (please give Travolta another wig), but in the meantime, Season 1 will premiere on February 2.
