AMC’s ‘Preacher’ Sets the World Aflame in New Teaser and Poster
Criminal though it feels that AMC will withhold Preacher until May 22, the Walking Dead network has at least a few flickers of mercy. Case in point, a familiar-looking official poster for the new series has arrived, along with a fiery new teaser that turns everything you know upside down.
AMC released the latest official promo for Preacher, following the recent premiere clip, this time out taking an artful approach to teasing a world on fire. Along with the new promo, AMC released a new poster similar to one of the earlier sneak peeks, this time bearing the tagline “The Beginning is Nigh.”
In addition to Dominic Cooper’s titular role as Jesse Custer, the cast of AMC’s Preacher includes Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. veteran Ruth Negga as Tulip, Misfits star Joseph Gilgun as Irish vampire Cassidy, Jackie Earle Haley as Odin Quincannon, Ian Colletti as Eugene “Arseface” Root, W. Earl Brown as Arseface’s father, Elizabeth Perkins as Vyla Quinncannon, True Blood vamp Lucy Griffiths, along with Jamie Anne Allman and Derek Wilson as Betsy and Donny Schenck.
For those unfamiliar with the 1990s comic series from Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon, AMC’s official description of Preacher reads:
Preacher is about Jesse Custer, a conflicted Preacher in a small Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy, the three embark on a journey to literally find God.
The original Preacher had itself been optioned for various adaptations many times over the years, while AMC’s incarnation will deviate from the comic in certain respects. Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) will serve as executive producer and showrunner for the new series, while fellow producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will direct the pilot episode, having written the script with Catlin.
Preacher will officially premiere on May 22, so stay tuned for the latest.
