Karl-Anthony Towns Jr. is not your average high school kid. That's because Towns is seven feet tall. Which, in the halls of St. Joseph High School in Metuchen, New Jersey, makes him stand out. You know, that plus his averages of 20.9 points, 13.4 rebounds and 6.2 blocks per game on the basketball court.

Towns led the Falcons to a 30-2 record in his senior season and the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions title. In January, he recorded a quadruple-double, with 20 points, 14 rebounds, 12 blocks and 10 assists. In one game.

A top-10 recruit, Towns is headed to Kentucky next season to play for John Calipari (who was also the coach of the Dominican national team in 2011 and 2012, for which Towns plays).

On Tuesday night in downtown Los Angeles, Towns was named the 2014 Gatorade Boys High School Athlete of the Year (along with Brianna Turner for the girls). When he was presented with the award by NBA pros Bradley Beal and Brandon Knight, plus NFL star Steven Jackson, Towns delivered an amazing, poignant, and emotional speech. Check it out:

Once everyone in the audience had stopped tearing up, we caught up with Towns for our customary 10-question Q+A. His answers might surprise you. Then again, he's 18 years old.

1. What was your favorite childhood cartoon and why?

My favorite childhood cartoon was definitely KaBlam! It was an old-school Nickelodeon cartoon. I remember, sometimes my family didn't have enough money for cable, so I used to go to my sister's apartment and watch it with her.

2. When you go to the movie theater, what’s your must-have candy or popcorn situation?

I'm a big Buncha Crunch fan. I love Buncha Crunch. I eat it even if I'm not at the movies, just at my house.

3. What’s the best TV show out right now?

I don't watch a lot of TV right now because of my schedule, so I'd say ESPN SportsCenter. But if I had to pick a real TV show, I would have said How I Met Your Mother, it just ended. But I'm a big Bar Rescue fan. I love Bar Rescue and I love Wild 'n Out on MTV.

4. Kobe or LeBron?

Both of them are legends in what they do. For me, I wouldn't mind taking either one.

5. Favorite Disney Princess?

Oh, god. Snow White. [Laughs]

6. When is the last time you Googled yourself, and why?

I haven't Googled myself in a while. I think I Googled myself when I played Team USA, which was about two years ago.

7. What’s your shower routine?

I need music. I love having music when I take a shower. I always make sure I've got some music. It can be diverse, from Kanye West, Mac Miller, Drake to Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, anything. I see how the shower goes, see what my iPod picks. [Laughs]

8. What do you think happens when you die?

When I die, hopefully a lot of people come to my funeral. I'm just trying to leave a legacy.

9. Tell us about your biggest heartbreak.

The biggest heartbreak I really had was when my grandfather died. I was really sad about that. He was one of the biggest reasons why I love basketball.

10. President Obama, in one word?

Health. [Laughs]
