Girl Band’s “De Bom Bom” Is Much Better Than Its Title Suggests

Dublin's Girl Band [obligatory mention that it's all dudes] makes a snarling, snorting racket that's equal parts krautrock, post-punk, and early aughts dance-rock, all filtered through guitar scrapes, dive-bombing bass fuzz, and brittle, herky-jerk drums. And holding together all the noise is lead singer Dara Kiely's even-keeled delivery, which can pivot to a shriek without warning.

Their latest single, "De Bom Bom," is a three-minute distillation of this ear-melting formula, with an omnipresent layer of sludge and squalls underpinning everything before a bridge hits that will strip the paint right off your fucking walls. The only other rock bands using noise this effectively these days might be Metz or Yvette, and that's good company to be in.
