Tiger Woods Writes Inspiring Letter to Bullied Suicidal Teen Who Stutters

Here’s something we’re unaccustomed to hearing: Tiger Woods did something that may make you cheer him.

In a world where the phrase “Tiger Woods heartwarming” is heard about as much as “Cleveland Browns Super Bowl champions,” the world’s polarizing athlete (aside from Tom Brady, anyway) recently sent a letter to a teen who stutters telling him to hang in there.

The boy, named Dillon, had attempted suicide because of the stutter and the bullying he has received as a result. Woods got wind of Dillon’s problem and quickly fired off a letter that’s earning raves:

Woods’ heartfelt missive is as timely as a double eagle when trailing by two strokes on the 18th hole, too, since it’s National Stuttering Awareness Week.

Dillon was certainly thrilled to hear from Woods and Golf Digest reports how he wishes their correspondence can have an impact:

I hope that maybe one other person out there that is also having struggles, will hear my story and realize suicide is not the answer and maybe it can help them. I just acted on impulse and now wish that I hadn’t. I was just tired of feeling small and like I didn’t matter. I know that I do matter with the help of my family and friends like you to support me. So thank you and please thank [‘Golf Digest’s] Ron [Sirak]. You are a really great person.

No matter what you think of Woods, this is an uplifting story. Now, if he can only do something about those pesky cheating rumors.
