The Black-and-White ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Is Coming to Blu-Ray

In interviews, Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller talked about wanting to show his movie in black-and-white. In a conversation with director Edgar Wright, he explained that “the default position for everyone is to de-saturate post-apocalyptic movies. There’s only two ways to go, make them black and white — the best version of this movie is black and white, but people reserve that for art movies now.” There were rumblings of a theatrical release of a black-and-white Fury Road, but that never came to pass. But the monochromatic print of the movie (heavy on the chrome, in this case) is coming to Blu-ray, and you’ll be able to get it before the end of the year.

Warner Bros has announced that the “Black & Chrome Edition” of Fury Road will come to home video on December 6. The Blu-ray comes with both the original version of the film and the black-and-white cut, plus an introduction by Miller.

If you need more Max in your life, Warners is also releasing the “Mad Max High Octane Collection,” which will collect the four Mad Max movies, plus the Black & Chrome edition of Fury Road, plus extras like the Miller introduction, a featurette on the making of The Road Warrior including Miller and original Max Mel Gibson, and the documentary Madness of Max about the first Mad Max film.

The High Octane Collection will set you back $80; the Black & Chrome Blu-ray on its own will be $30, so you can decide how much you want to pay to witness (WITNESS!!!) all the inky goodness.
