Hockey Player’s Daughter Brilliantly Engineers Trade for Her Dad

The most effective wheeler-dealer in pro sports may be in pigtails and trying to work her way through the fifth grade.

Defenseman Jordan Leopold was traded from the Columbus Blue Jackets to the Minnesota Wild on Monday. Shortly after, a letter his 11-year-old daughter, Jordyn, wrote to the Wild’s coaches back in January asking the team to acquire her father surfaced.

Leopold played at the University of Minnesota and his family still lives there.

Is his daughter’s plea cute? Without question. But let’s not lose sight of the fact she may have found her calling as a GM.

Jordyn tugged on the heartstrings and certainly tried to appeal to emotion in her missive, traits she may want to hold on because she could definitely use them when trying to make trades as a GM.

While the current crop of GMs in sports seems focused on analytics, the rarely used “make ’em feel guilty” approach could be a revolutionary approach, thanks to a schoolgirl who just wants her daddy to be home.

Maybe this will catch on in other areas of sports, too. Can’t afford the high ticket price that scalper wants? Get your daughter to make a sad face. Don’t want to cough up all that money for a hot dog? Have your daughter feign passing out from hunger. Looking to move down to better seats? Nudge your daughter to start crying.

Yup, not since the wave has something had the potential to so alter the sports landscape.
