Fowling — Finally, a Sport That Combines Bowling and Football

Not since peanut butter teamed up with jelly have we seen two such wonderful things come together.

Introducing fowling, a sport mixing football with bowling that has taken off after launching in suburban Detroit.

How is it played? It’s pretty simple, really. There are two teams at opposite ends of a lane, with each team  taking turns throwing a football at a set of bowling pins at the other end. The first team to knock down all the pins first wins.

Chris Hutt is the man who invented the game while tailgating at the Indianapolis 500, making him a 21st century James Naismith, if you will.

Hutt is so serious about fowling that last year he opened a 34,000-square-foot building dedicated solely to the game. More than 100,000 games have been played since Hutt opened his space to the public and in that time there have only been 29 strikes.

Is fowling the sport of the future? Only time will tell, but we say they should introduce tackling to make it even more enticing.
