Guardians of the Galaxy star and peak American male Chris Pratt will host the season premiere of Saturday Night Live on September 27, with musical guest Ariana Grande. The 40th (!) season of the iconic sketch comedy series will return the following week with host Sarah Silverman (who just won an Emmy, and had a brief stint on the cast in the early '90s) and Maroon 5, making their (ugh) fifth appearance on the show.

There are also rumors swirling that legendary former SNL cast-member Bill Murray has been tapped to host the third episode of the season, but the show has yet to announce it. It would mark Murray's first time on the show in 15 years.

It was a busy offseason for the show, with executive producer Lorne Michaels firing rookie cast-members Noel Wells, John Milhiser, and Brooks Wheelan. Mike O'Brien is rumored to be on the bubble for the cast, which would return him to a writing-only post, but that's crazy because he was one of the standouts last year. (Here's an idea: Replace anthropomorphic Ken Doll Colin Jost with O'Brien on the Update desk.)

In addition, the show's longtime announcer, Don Pardo, passed away last month at the age of 96. Pardo's voice had introduced the series for 38 seasons, so we can expect to see some sort of tribute during the premiere.
