Sophie Returns With “Lemonade”

Every few years, you'll hear a song that sounds like absolutely nothing else out, and it makes the endless slog through derivative dreck and copies of copies and butt-rock and butt-rap worth it, to hear that one truly fresh sound. In 2013, British producer Sophie accomplished that rare feat with "Bipp," and now he has finally dropped the follow-up.

"Lemonade," which you may recognize if you've been able to catch the elusive producer live in recent months, employs a hip-hop beat as interpreted by some machine in the Willy Wonka factory, before the bubbles and snaps disappear and a churning J-pop chorus kicks in. At just under two minutes, it's a sugary rush befitting of the name, but you'll still wish there was more.

The "Lemonade"/"Hard" single is out August 4 on Numbers and will see a limited release on 12" vinyl.
